STUDIO SERVICES

I began providing raw recording services for bands, while pursuing my own recording and composition goals. Eventually this hobby turned into a passion of sorts, and my long term goal included combining both my art and music efforts under one roof. After all, a day spent tattooing in the morning, then recording in the afternoon, sounds like a dream come true.

While modest, the studio has everything we would need to track and produce a commercial quality recording. I can help you acquire raw recordings of your drums, guitars, bass, or vocals; or take your concept from start to finish, including graphics and packaging design.

Rates are varied dependent on complexity of the project, but the aim is to be fair from start to finish.

Preparing for recording:

  • Guitars / basses should have fresh strings, stretched, with proper intonation. Bring spare strings. If in doubt, have your guitars set up and serviced ahead of time.
  • Drums need fresh heads and be tuned.
  • Vocalist(s) be well rested, bring room temp bottled water
  • Know your parts!! While charges are hourly, neither you nor I want to run out the clock re-taking parts that should be dialed in.
  • Send over a list of how many songs you’re aiming to record. For each, please include title, tempo, instruments / amps / effects used, lyrics, and reference examples (one or two will suffice). As I will need to set up accordingly, I will not be ready without this information ahead of time.

My process:

I have an excellent Roland V-drum kit on hand, and Superior Drummer 3. You are welcome to use this, or a hybrid setup, where we utilize actual cymbals. This will net the cleanest results, and easiest to edit, as either way we don’t have bleed issues in the mics. Otherwise, yes, we can absolutely track your full kit, with up to 16 channels at a time.

We track your guitars and bass in clean, while utilizing amp sims OR we track parallel signals of your clean guitar and also through your amp, or one of mine. It is imperative we capture the clean / direct-in signal for potential edits and re-amping. The incoming signal will run through a quality outboard preamp, and for bass my personal preference is to also run through one of the outboard Distressor, DBX-160, or gritty old Bellari RP282.

With few exceptions, I don’t mic your cab, so no need to bring it. If we go all direct-in, all you need is your guitar or bass. If we use an actual amp, we will run the speaker out through a Torpedo load box, then apply speaker impulse responses after the fact.

I realize old school recording enthusiasts may find this off putting, but the times they are a’changing, and I want to help you help yourself in this process, even if it means you track some or all of your guitar and bass parts at home and we do the rest here. Whatever meets your budget, and gets your music out there.
